From the Principal:

Greetings St. Charles Families and Welcome back to school!

I hope you all had a Blessed Christmas and spent quality time with your families making memories and getting much needed rest and relaxation!

A couple of quick reminders moving into the new year -

- Our winter MAP testing will begin next week on Monday, the 7th. We are looking forward to seeing the growth your kids have made over the past few months! Please try to schedule appointments around testing to minimize the need for make-ups.

- A letter went home at the end of October to all extended care families informing you of the cost change to $6 per hour in increments of 30 minutes. That change is now in effect.

- Auction donations are due no later than January 11th. Thank you for all of the wonderful donations we have received so far!

- We will send students outside as often as possible during the winter months. Please remember to send your student with appropriate clothing and shoes to play outside.

- In the event of a school closure situation, you will be informed via email, text and phone, as well as the TV and radio stations no later than 6:15 AM (the call to close school is made by 6 AM). As usual, if it is dangerous for you personally to get to St. Charles, it is always your decision to keep your student home if you feel it is safer to do so.

I wish you all a very Happy New Year!

In Christ,

Heather Schlaich

Children’s Mass:  Please join us this Sunday, January 6th, at the 10:00 Mass.  Students will be reading, singing, and presenting the gifts.  All students are asked to wear their uniforms to Mass.  This is one way to thank the parish for their ongoing support of St. Charles School.

Fine-free Library Cards:  The Spokane Public Library is extending an invitation to all of our students to apply for a fine-free library card.  See the attached documents for more information and to apply. This offer also includes students who live outside of the city limits so even if they live in the county they can get a fine free card from the library.  If your kids already have a standard card you may call the library or come in and have them change the status of their current card in order to receive the fine-free card.

Auction Donations:  Your family’s auction donation is due by Friday, January 11th.  Please recall that all families are asked to donate an item or items VALUED at $125 (or $75 if you only have preschool kids).  You certainly don’t have to spend that much, though.  Keep an eye out for post-Christmas deals.  All families who have turned in their donations by the 11th of January will be entered into a drawing for a date night!  Also, tickets are now on sale for the auction on our website for $45 each or a table of 8 for $360.   Go to

.  The success of our auction depends on all of us!

No School Mass:  Father Sean will be on vacation next week so there won’t be a school Mass on Wednesday the 9th.

Mark Your Calendars:  Parents are invited and encouraged to attend Internet Safety Night on Monday, January 14th, at 6:00 here at school.  Learn about apps, sites, and tools that your kids are using…or soon will be.  Steve Schreiner of ESD 101 will be the presenter.  Don’t miss this important event.

Gonzaga Prep Cheer Camp: All students in grades K-6 are invited to the G-Prep Cheer Camp.  The camp will be on Thursday, January 17th, from 4-6:30.  The campers will then perform at the Prep home games on Friday the 18th.  Cost is $45.  Please follow this link for more information:
